Show PORTION OF KAIBAB FOREST OPENED TO HUNTING Ogden, Dec. 1. The state game warden of Arizona has announced that the west side of the Kaibab Forest For-est will be thrown open to deer hunting hunt-ing December 1 to January 5. A-fee of $5.00 per head will be charged for each deer according to District Forester For-ester R. H. Ruthlege of the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain district. The state officials of Arizona have opposed the shooting on the Kaibab Forest up until this time, owing to the misunderstanding of the exact conditions and fearing that it would tend to interfere with the drive which is to be undertaken by George Mc-Cormick, Mc-Cormick, in an attempt to herd several sever-al thousand deer from the overstocked overstock-ed ranges to the opposite side of the Colorado river. The area upon which shooting is to be allowed lies twenty miles or more to the west of the area upon which the drive is to be organized, and is separated from that area by a high plateau now covered cov-ered with snow. The deer on the killing area are in poor flesh, the larger bucks weighing only about 150 pounds. The edge of the shooting area may be reached from Ryan on the edge of the Kaibab Forest, which in turn is accessible and is reached by an automobile road from Kanab. It is therefore possible to go by car directly to the killing grounds. Persons should not go upon up-on the Forest with guns without first securing written permission. |
