Show MORONI JENSEN TALKS AT ROTARY Moroni Jensen, district superintendent super-intendent for tfie UtanIdaho Sugar Beet company, was the guest speaker at the regular luncheon of the Rotary club last Friday. Mr. Jensen told of his company's experience with the growing of a blight resistant sugar beet seed, and of the imc ueveioimieiiL in a l nau oeen made locally in this respect. According Ac-cording to Mr. Jensen there are only three .places in the United States that can grow this seed as it is grown here in St. George. Because of better growing con-, ditions, better handling of the crop and through fertilizing this year's crop is wonderfully improved im-proved over last year's. Because of this improvement, Mr. Jensen Jen-sen went on 'to say that, his company com-pany was highly pleased with the results obtained here and it -is also coming right back to the farmers in a far better price yield per acre. The white fly has done a great deal of damage this year. One of their mills that has always al-ways run each year will not turn a wheel because of the loss of crops due to the damage of this white fly. Many types of seed have been developed in the pasj that would resist this blight, but they are of low fertility. It is the high fertility of the local crop that has enthused his company com-pany stated Mr. Jensen. |
