Show EIGHT ESCAPE INJURY WHEN FQPiDSJOLLIDE One Car Completely Demolished De-molished When Machines Comes Together at East Portal of Highway Tunnel Eight young men, occupants of two Ford coupes, escaped without serious injury when the cars collided col-lided about fifty yards east of the tunnel two miles from St. George shortly after midnight Monday. Some received slight cuts and bruises but no one was seriously hurt. The blame for the accident was not placed upon anyone, as it was evident to the investigating officers ' that both cars were being be-ing driven at a fairly high rate of speed and that they hit almost in the center of the highway7. The accident was probably due to a large extent to the crowded condition con-dition in each car which contained contain-ed four occupants. One of the cars was owned by the Dixie Power company and was driven by Ralph Savage, an employe em-ploye of the company. With him were Earl D. Olpin, Stewart Lamb of Las Vegas and Ed Empey of St. George. They were traveling east and the impact of the collision col-lision caused the machine to turn over coming to a stop resting on the guard rail balanced over a 75 foot embankment. No one was thrown out, but the car was practically prac-tically demolished. The other car which figured in the accident was coming toward St. George and was driven by Vaughn Holt. With him were Arnold Ar-nold Chadburn, Barnard Cannon and David Rogers. Their machine did not overturn and was not badly damaged. One front wheel was mashed and the front axle and spring broken. Sheriff Wm. Brooks and Deputy John H. Cottam went to the scene immediately after the accident ac-cident and made an investigation. , . |
