Show Branch of National Youth Movement Organized in County Dr. Francis Kirkham, national leader of youth and director of the Youth Movement here in Utah, met with the civic and school leaders on Wednesday night, September 18 to discuss the various problems that are presenting the youth of America and some . of the work that has been outlined by President Roosevelt. Roo-sevelt. Dr. Kirkham gave a short history his-tory of the youth problem in this country and told how the nations of Europe were meeting the situation sit-uation by taking them into the army and giving them that type of training. He told how it was not the desire of the American people that our youth receive this type of education and that it was with this in mind that President Roosevelt signed the $50,000,000 bill setting aside that amount of money to be used in the interest of the American youth. A large portion of this money, stated Dr. Kirkham, is being turned over to the high schools and colleges of the country coun-try so that children needing assistance as-sistance can receive it through this source and enable them to secure an education. In speaking of education, he declared that the records show that there are more young people of the state of Utah who are trying to secure a college education, in proportion propor-tion to the population, than any other state in the union. The purpose of Dr. Kirkham's visit here was to organize a Youth Committee who would make a survey ef the county and be able to cooperate with the state and national government in working out this problem. As part of this Youth movement, move-ment, Dr. Kirkham was asked by the National Council, to select what he would consider the most representative and outstanding youth in the state.
