Show NEW DAM TO BE BUILT BY ST. GEORGE CAMP by Del Mar Nelson ' Mr. J. P. Martin, Regional Engineer, En-gineer, and Mr. James E. Gurr, Dixie National Forest supervisor, made a visit to ca.mp PE-213 Saturday, Sat-urday, January 19th, for the purpose pur-pose of inspecting work already in progress; namely, the Santa Clara River re-lsiliting 'project and the Winsor Dam and other erosion control projects. As a result of Mr. Martin's visit a new addition has been added to our future planned projects. pro-jects. The additional project will consist of a flood control Dam to be built about one-half mile East of Santa Clara. This dam will be in the form of an earth-dyke built across a draw; with the up-stream side faced with rock rip-rap. It will be about twenty-five feet high and 300 feet long and will contain approximately 15,000 cubic yards of materials. It is estimated this dam will be finished by about May 1, 1935. J. C. Tolton, Camp PE-213 superintendent, states that flash floods occur in this draw at certain cer-tain seasons of the year. Directly below the intended dyke these floods cover the highway to the extent of holding up traffic. Much valuable, productive' land is flooded and covered with debris de-bris and sand causing crops to be completely destroyed. The building of a dam to control such floods will correct the un-desired un-desired situation now existing. While here Mr. Martin and Mr. Gurr conferred with the of-(Continued of-(Continued on page four) CCC DAM ficials 'Of St. George City and in all probability alditional projects will be approved. , These projects, pro-jects, along with those now completed, com-pleted, will be of a material benefit bene-fit to land and property in the immediate vicinity of St. George City.
