R Jacobsen who investigated THE TilE ACCIDENT occurred Sunday morning at when the lone driver Gary Truman Tolman 24 driving a Dresser Industries bulk trailer unit filled with drilling mud gained too much speed to control his vehicle The driver reported ashe as ashe ashe he began the eight percent grade he tried to shift into lower gear and could not then get the unit back into any gear He lie applied the brakes and they began to fade when the vehicle ran off ocr the right side of oC the roadway up a steep embankment em where the tractor and trailer both overturned pinning the driver According to Trooper Jacobsen it was probably 20 minutes before the accident was discovered and over a half half- hour before beCore word could be sent to officers and they could get to the scene Then it took about one half hour to pull the mangled cab apart so the driver could be released All this time the driver was upside down Jacobsen reported THROUGH THE TIlE swift efforts of Floyd Needles and his wrecker and the assistance of EMT's Scott Norman Powell and Ken Carlton the victim was rescued and rushed to Uintah County Hospital After an examination it was found that Tolman had just suffered cuts bruises and abrasions from Crom the accident He was treated and released The accident took place miles north of Vernal approximately approximately approximately ap ap- ap- ap proximately one and one half miles below the Windy Point turnoff and about feet beyond the spot where another load of drilling mud had been dumped in a similar accident DAMAGES TO the tractor unit were estimated at and to the trailer which was taken to Dresser Industries near Ro Roosevelt evelt Tolman was cited for speed too loo fas fast for conditions Assisting in the investigation of the accident were Trooper Brent Boren UHF and Deputies Harold Cook and Nick Eaton Eaton Uintah County Sheriffs Sheriff's office |
