Show M va r. r y r.- r. 4 I I t w 1 It I o v I i I Itt tt K J I IJ J 11 J I 11 II I I li S 'S g r tV 4 py La lw G lt lt'S Angle Angie Lynn McLean Jeffrey Jackson Bryan Boren Valerie Peltier Roy Glen Goodrich Merry Mrs Club Recounts Efforts Towards New Pool At a recent meeting of the Merry Mrs Club a report was given on the progress pro prod gress of their work toward a new swimming swim ming pool by Mrs Charles Shumway president She stated that in 1970 the club contacted Ted Taylor Uintah alion director and volunteered to spearhead spear head a drive for a new indoor pool for forthe forthe forthe the Vernal area Mrs Chad Orton past president appointed Mrs Ed chairman and Mrs Lloyd Winward co cod cochairman chairman of the project SEVERAL GROUNDWORK WORK meetings were held and in the spring of 1971 plans were made to involve the community community com and service clubs A survey was mailed through the Chamber of Commerce Commerce Com merce to all businesses and civic organ All replies were in favor of a swimming complex As a result of the survey the Merry Mrs committee attended a meeting of the representatives of the Chamber of Commerce City Council County Commissioners Commissioners Com missioners and school board Each agency agency agen cy expressed the need for a new pool THE MERRY Club had swimming swimming swim swim- ming pool floats in six parades during the summer of 1971 with the theme Lets Pool Together Several meetings were held in the fall of 1971 with Ken Anderton and Kirk Jolley Jolley Jol Jol- ley representing the Chamber of Commerce Commerce Com Com- merce and Lions Lion's Club A delegation then met with the school board and expressed expressed expressed ex ex- pressed the desire for a pool in connection connection con con- With the school program AFTER SEVERAL meetings it was suggested by Ted Taylor that a mass meeting be called to see sec how much community com corn support there was for a new pool The Lions Club arranged for radio advertising advertising ad ad- and coverage The Merry Mrs Club spearheaded the other advertising by arranging for newspaper ads and made fifty Smile for a New Pool posters posters post post- ers rs for business windows They also contacted all the service and federated and federated feder ted f clubs for support and help THE CURRENT TOPICS Club volunteered volunteered volun volun- to contact all civic and social clubs and ask them to invite their members mem memo bers bels Progressive Arts Club and Merry Mrs Club promoted a telephoning campaign cam cam- The Current Topics Study Club contacted members of the Golden Age center for support were ask to contact the district schools and present a swimming pool assembly Jaycees Jay Jay- Jaycees cees Rotary and Lions donated to the expense of the campaign Flyers were sent home from each school by the school board and distributed downtown by bythe bythe bythe the Uintah High School Pep Pcp Club NOVEMBER TENTH over 1300 persons attended the mass meeting Since the meeting many clubs and individuals have contacted the committee members and pledged their support of the project The club members voted to continue 4 a their support of oC the swimming pool drive and are arc setting up a trust fund for the project at the Bank Dank of Vernal Mrs I Charles Shumway also stated that a citizens committee would be formed to help with the promotion of the pool I |
