Show Proposals Presented for Indoor Swimming Pool Uintah County residents were given the terms and conditions under which the proposed pro pro- posed Indoor swimming pool complex could be he built at a public mass meeting held at the Vernal Jr High School Wednesday of last week Only two members were absent from the entire Uintah County Commission Vernal City Council and Uintah District School Board noard who each presented their feelings concerning the desire of many citizens asking for raising funds to build an indoor year round swimming pool Ted Taylor Uintah School District director director di dl rector of recreation conducted the public meeting attended by bv over 1300 people A slide presentation was shown by Vernal Vernal Ver Vert nal City demonstrating the deterioration that has taken place at the Vernal municipal municipal municipal mun mun- pool The city officials agree that the pool has passed the point where it itis itis itis is practical to repair It So many things are in a dangerous and able condition that it would be best to bulldoze the present pool facility level leveland leveland leveland and construct another swimming facility Uintah County Commission chairman Bert Angus gave three alternatives the community could follow The first is to togo togo togo go back to the creeks and ponds and not have a municipal swimming pool The second would be to build a new outdoor pool to replace the old one for use during the summer months The third alternative alternative alter alter- native would be to build an indoor year year- round pool and incorporate it into the school program Commissioner Angus presented a proposal pro pro- that if the school district would float the bonds necessary to build a swimming pool complex including a bond election the county would pay for the bond expenses for a year three-year period until the school board could take them over when their own building bonds re re- lire tire Through negotiation the length of payment and amount of bonds would have to worked out between the three tax supported entities A year year round round pool would have to be used as part of the school program to justify the expense and to keep It busy during the school months stressed Mr Angus The county plan presented by Mr Angus An An- gus was to recommend that the school district operate the pool and the city and county pay their share of construction and maintenance The county could levy one mill for three years and raise about towards the pool The city proposal for building a new swimming pool was given by Mayor Alvin Al Al- vin Kay He lIe explained that about 75 percent of the property taxes paid In Uintah Uintah Uin Uin- tah County are paid by industrial operations operations oper oper- such as oil companies mining and utilities One mill increase added to the average family property taxpayer would only increase their taxes by 2 The city has agreed to levy 2 mills for 3 years for a swimming pool The tax base of the city is small compared compared com com- pared to the county One mill in the city raises only around The City Mayor stated that the proposal proposal proposal pro pro- should be presented to the people by an election to decide themselves s if they wanted to increase the tax levy to bond for a new swimming pool The School Board Doard proposal was presented presented presented pre pre- by president of the board Douglas DouglasB B B.
