Show School SEA Board Negotiations Negotiation teams representing Uintah School Board Doard and Uintah Education Association As have been holding public meetings meet ings for a month and a half on every Thursday at 6 to 7 pm p.m. at the school district office THE TWO teams have each presented present ed a list of proposals for the 72 1971 professional agreement contract also aho a 8 list of philosophy of education and negotiations was presented by the board team To date the team has accepted accept ed the philosophy of education presentation presen tation and are now presenting their 34 3 proposals to the board team IN ITS first proposal asked that all items agreed to by the district and the become part of district policy and continue from year to year but still be subject to further evaluation review and negotiations This item tem was bypassed for the time because the board team said it could not commit future boards The second proposal was to reduce class loads to a maximum class size be for the primary grades to 25 students per certified teacher The board team tean agreed to this with the addition of the clause insofar as possible A b subtitle subtitle sub sub- title to the second proposal asking that any change to the maximum student load be submitted to a review committee committee com mittel consisting of equa equal representation from the elementary teachers administrators admin and parents of the children involved was eliminated A THIRD proposal concerned teachers teacher's aids Subsection a stated staled that an aide will be used to improve the quality of instruction per student and not as jus jus- 1 Discuss 1 Issues to increase the size of the class This was acceptable to the board Section b asked that the faculty have havethe havethe havethe the opportunity to interview and help hell select candidates who may be bo working with them as 85 teachers aids It was agreed by the teams that the present program was acceptable ble in this re respect Number four item ask asked d that junior and senior high students be requested to repeat a course in which the work is unsatisfactory to do away with the passing a student for social rather than academic reasons After a lengthy discussion discussion dis dis- it was decided to hold this item in abeyance until further study could be made ITEM FIVE stated that a grievance ane procedure to be added to the policies and procedures to resolve disputes and Continued on page 6 y 1 Negotiations Negotiations' Continued from page 1 grievances in to an orderly and equitable manner This Item was bYl bypassed assed for the time being by the teams Item six stated that any items relatIng relating ing to salary decreases or increases effecting the membership of the UBA snail be submitted to the association to be subject to lo negotiations effecting the next fiscal year This item is to prevent coaches and counselors from neg negotiating ne ne- ne- ne g separately Alter a discussion discus stun sion the tile board tea team m agreed to take tins tillS matter mailer up me Ule lull board since nicy liley have to their previous actions ITEM SEVEN stated that any increase in individual salaries due to lane changes changes changes chan chan- experience steps or added responSibility responsibility which were already part of the salary schedule of the previous year shall not be considered as being part of a cost of living salary adjustment It was agreed to take tako this item to the full board for consideration Items eight nine 10 and 11 it concerned esta establishing a hour 40 week for teachers teach teach- ers with regular hours from 8 am I to 5 pm p.m. anything beyond this would be extra time It was suggested by the teachers team that time lime clocks could be installed Teachers would be expected expect ed cd to pay admission to all athletic or school events charging admission and teachers would in turn be paid for extra service if they were asked to as as- c cr r with any such events i ITEMS 12 through 16 10 concern teachers teacher's evaluation and statement of record concerning performance and ask ed that no teacher be assigned side the scope of ot his teaching leaching certificate cate cafe or his major or minor field o study Items eight through lo in were not dis' dis discussed discussed cussed at the negotiation meetings they concern administrators and print prini A meeting with the district principals prin was scheduled Monday and this meeting these Items will be dis discussed cussed with the negotiations team Because of the slow progress thus thus' far in the negotiations it was decided to lo lengthen the weekly meeting to tw two hours instead of the previous one hour Attendance at the Thursday meetings meetings' has indicated more interest than Ulan usual for the beginning of teacher Lions Seventeen were present two weeks ago and 15 persons were present last week Members of the negotiation teams in in- elude Ray Hay E E.
