H Arvene Cooper were literally chewed to death by dogs last week The ewe on the Stray Dogs Still Threat To Uintah County are up in arms again over the constant threat and several recent incidents of stray stray- dogs killing their sheep WEDNESDAY MORNING of last week a pack of dogs viciously killed five large ewes and crippled maimed and chewed on eight others five of which have since died and killed five lambs The sheep belonged to II IL Arvene Cooper Coop Coop- er and were part of a flock of 60 in n ina na ina a pen at the Fred Bingham farm on South Vernal Avenue just out of the city limits Several of the Cooper ewes had been skinned alive all the flesh had been pulled from their heads and necks and several had all the skin pulled from their stomachs A WEEK previous to the Wednesday dog raid one sheep was killed from the flock and a neighbor Don M M. M Walker lost two sheep from his flock reported Mr Cooper Mr Cooper said he had no idea where the dogs could have come from They come in the night and leave in the early morning leaving only the muti mutt mutilated sheep as their evidence They could have come from the other end of the county for all he knew stated Mr Cooper SEVERAL MONTHS ago the local held a public meeting to try and come up with an answer to the dog problem They recommended to the County Commissioners a committee be called to study the problem This was done and the recommendations of the committee were used to formulate and publish a county dog ordinance which became effective the first of February Also March 15 was given as the deadline dead line for all county dogs clogs to be licensed Tom Freestone chairman of the dog control committee and Clark Jones animal control officer met with the commissioners Tuesday to discuss what steps need to be taken now IT WAS decided that a systematic dog check of the entire county would have to be made especially in the problem pro blem areas checking on dog licenses Continued on page 6 Ir h.
