Show f a ry r VIRTUS McCONKIE final rites held 1 I Virtus McConkie Funeral Services Held in Maeser Maese Funeral services for Charles Virtus i t McConkie McConkle were held Monday at the Maee Maeser Maeser Mae- Mae e ser Second Ward Chapel at 11 am a.m. conducted by Roland W. W Hein Rein of c r the bishopric Mr McConkie McConkle died Thursday Thurs Thurs- r day of last week in the Uintah County Hospital of cancer Mr McConkie was born October 2 1909 in Moab to Charles William and andi j i Persia Viola Robertson McConkie the child in a family of 16 children F HE MOVED to Vernal with his family family fam fam- ily in July of 1913 and has lived in the basin since He attended grade school t I in Maeser and graduated from Uintah i High School May 28 1927 f After school he went to work on a road construction job for a short time i then became employed for his uncle i j Wilford McConkie July 19 on a cattle i ranch taking his pay in cattle This is how he got his start in the cattle industry MR M McCONKIE cONKIE met Sadie Alexander Alexandi Alexand Alexand- i er in high school and they were married five live years later in the Alexander home f by Bishop Lester Bingham December E 6 21 1931 A son Glen was born August 24 1931 1932 1931 r 1 Jean October 12 1935 and andi andt i t a daughter Rita August 19 1937 T r Early in 1935 the young couple leased a place the V-Bar V Ranch then bought it ito o later that year They worked hard and raised good crops and cattle and they t I completed paying for their ranch in 1945 THE ENTIRE family became active in 4 II club work and raised and shown show show- i n ed top animals in various shows Dru Drui i came to live with the Mc Me- in 1953 and was legally adopted by them Another brother of Drus Dru's Benny came to live with them Mr McConkie was instrumental in organizing or or- organizing t the Vernal Livestock Show which is a hugh success each year He lie helped get the new facilities and andt t was responsible for making the sale of s the fat animals a success a FOR THE past 17 years he has been employed by the U. U S.
