T PAUL THOMAS Chairman Chairman Chairman Chair Chair- man Legislative Committee VICTOR WILKINS After Alter viewing the news program on Channel 2 Friday evening detailing conditions at the Uintah County and Vernal City Cily dog pound I Iam Iam Iam am outraged and ashamed outraged that such conditions exist and ashamed that I like most of oC the other residents of Uintah County have hav chosen lo to to ignore the similar storIes that have been aired In the past We must all share the responsibility responsibility for Cur having the worst facility in the State Stale of oC Utah because we have not demanded that our government officials provide better betler I believe that every pet owner should assume the same responsibility In regard to lo his pets that he does toward his children that of oC feeding housing and protecting them and of seeing that tha t they do not become dependents of oC society nor a menace to lo It However as with children some pet owners refuse this responsibility so society at large must assume It lt We do need an animal control program but bul It il should be concerned concerned concerned con con- and humane rather than cruel Only the residents of oC Uintah County can insure that thai we have such a program and we can have it il only by letting lelling our elected officials know that we want it- it il that we insist upon it The city and county officials keep saying that there is no money for an improved animal shelter shelter perhaps perhaps this is true I Iam Iam Iam am proposing that thai we do not nol use government funds for a new shelter We can do it ourselves if we really want to if iC we really care rare In the past many clubs and other civic organizations have raised money for needed civic im improvements the hospital and the new swimming pool are two recent examples Perhaps the members of some of these clubs and organizations care enough about aboul the humane treatment of anim animals ls that they will help to raise funds for this much needed facility either by members member's contributions or as a club project To begin this fund drive I have deposited my contribution of in an account called The Animal Shelter Fund in Zions Zion's Bank of Vernal I hope that other people will contribute to this fund also so that we may remedy this deplorable situation before winter comes again I believe that tha t animals are Gods God's creatures and that none of us has the right to lo think of himself as a good person unless he is concerned for their welfare too Sincerely Liz Enyeart |
