Show Beaux Arts Club learns of Cuna Indians February 4 the Beaux Arts Club met at the home of their hostess Mrs William B B. B Wallis Fourteen members were present MRS 1 ARBEN ARDEN Jolley presented a program on the Cuna Indians of the Island of ofSan ofSan ofSan San Bias off the coast of Panama Pictures a map of the course of the Cruise taken by Mr and Mrs Jolley and artifacts were displayed during the meeting The most moot interesting of these were the molas The Indian women use several layers of different colored cloth to cut and sew into 18 inch squares of reverse Each cut is only 8 inch to 4 y inch and all sewing is done by hand The designs are of animals geometric and religious figures and have different meanings After the reverse has been completed through 3 to 5 S layers of cloth the sides are sewn up and it is then used as a blouse or top Tourists have only been able to tour the San Bias Islands the thelast thelast thelast last 25 years and since that time people have been anxious to obtain samples of the reverse clothing so so after the articles have been worn awhile the Indians take the too stitching out of the sides an and sell them to tourists Pillows wall hangings and many other items are made trade from the creative and intricate designs Mrs Jolley also mentioned the Indian people were very small in stature The women were under 5 feet tall taU talland talland and very delicately featured I 1 The next meeting of the Beaux Deaux Arts Club will be held field at atthe atthe atthe the home of Mrs Leo Hacking March 3 |
