Show Nation of capitalists William Chapman of the Los Angeles Washington Times-Washington Post Service devoted a recent feature to a study sponsored by the Peoples Policy Center which purports to show great grea t concentration concentration concentration con con- of wealth in the top five percent of the American population taxation and such things as abolition of private land landownership landownership landownership ownership were suggested among other proposals for redistributing the wealth and it appears that anyone with a net worth of more than is likely to tobe tobe tobe be suspect and exposed to the sharing-the- wealth plans Sponsors of this latest study of wealth fail to explain how if all the wealth is concentrated in the pockets of so few people this country can consume so much of the earths earth's resources Who owns the countless millions of television sets over million autos the millions of vacation homes recreational campers home freezers and appliances that tha t people in other lands have never even seen let alone used Who has created the sellers seller's market in everything from porterhouse steaks to outboard engines It has not been the top five percent of American citizens It has been the average American family which has long enjoyed a level of abundance unlike any that ever existed before for a great majority of a nations nation's people a nation in which virtually everyone is a capitalist |
