matters that I 1 am interested in I 1 have been thinking some of leaving leasing the basin and going into idilio id ilio or I 1 lie I 1 e heard there arc are so kanj man more upper tunit les for a boung an inn to get icart ed and get ahead in that counts than there are here in this basin here ue e are ar hemmed in by tho the desert and the M u retains from tl outside va bild please tell me mr what sou can aca in this valley to cause you to leave a ceule and dei developed eloped valley such as ait cache valley Is to make your home her looking anek over the he past two scars aich ie ip spent in ashley val ley I 1 have many more reasons for wanting to stay and maka in li line n e sad rase my family than I 1 had ft hen I 1 first came bere at first mj m primary fir cem ne ing as for my health which I 1 ian lan to ax I 1 have fully auly regained fA havig avig ith asthma to uch such a degree that it waa was impossible for me ti arry terry on my and then come ti rt and find and that the climate so 0 o agrem agrees w th me that I 1 have haie been able to oer overcome come this ailment complete lv nat nati lf rUly lly would make any man want ant to ta lay ay ri d make his home here but since that time tim e I 1 have hae learned to know and appreciate preci ate the friendship A aich can come only from contact with pure simple honest folks A spirit exists among the people here that Is I 1 hard to find in any other settlement or valley in the country taken me at my ord trusted me and have made me feel one me of them only people who have lived in cities where here one hardly know knows the family living using next door can appreciate chate what it means to come into A row rew country among strangers and bi made to feel at home and wel delcorre corre since my first coming here at no time have I 1 ft fil it 26 that I 1 A aan t anted the spiritual and religious condition ft el the people here as 1 better than thin exists in any other place that I 1 fine tae tn been creating a good wholesome atmosphere mo sphere in which to rear a family I 1 don dont t mean t ti say that it can cant t be ITI inn proved on but I 1 do say that the re legious life the people here try to lend exert exerts a stronger influence for good than I 1 have found in most places I 1 first visited this basin in august of 1928 and arid as most people will recall it had been a dry hot summer the crops in southern idaho and eve even n in cache valley were poor the pis pastures tures burning and dried up for lack ot or mols ture but when I 1 first caught sight of the ashley valley here the first th ng hat that impressed me vi was as how hos green and beautiful it was the oil 13 1 fertile just as fertile as the high pric priced d jand along the snake river in idaho or ciche valley and only about conf third as high 1 in i price land in bahe valley no better than the land in sells for between and per acre while the land along the nako river ranges from per acre tor for gravely soil to for the best and better developed places unless a man has a tidy sum to begin with he tie ca cai i never buy one of those farms and maka make it pay for itself then too we vie have hae a bood climate here the winters are no nearly bo to hard as they are around idaho falls blackfoot Diack foot cache valley etc and the summers areno are no hotter than in these places last december while in logan a man asked me what shat kind of winters we were having around vernal and when I 1 told him that 83 bet tt we e had no snow he said that hest hew uld have to see before bel bellowing lovIng as a ho he had never seen a place yet a mile high that t hive hard winter winters heavy sno snow another thing that struck ury itry forcefully was how cheap irrigating water aster Is 13 1 I rave tave a place in idaho on I 1 pay water maintenance charge per acre per year in very few places will you find where the people get the water for any than thu under the american palls falls and twin lakes projects in idaho beside having to pay a high price tor for the water ater tt ue t farmer farmers have to pay 2 jo per aci acie e water maintenance ch charge uge oath veer and its it i only in wet set years that they get enough water to take care ol 01 0 the needs of the crops kno ing this can you wonder onder at me laugh aig ig and wid saying that the people here who ho mck lick about paying 50 cent the low maintenance cost by the aa anal directors rector dont know what a good thing they have and tow easy they erp get ting off living in the canyon and arid as i close to the heads of the canals aai a I 1 I 1 do I 1 keep pretty well in ouch wit with the work that Is 13 being done on th rt river and can say that it if more 0 the rs would show a 11 tie le in and spend a day on th canal ord river they tiley would e more ully fully the efforts put forth by the we directors and would realize blut the money spent tn safeguarding the heads of 0 the canali WAS as well expended As tar far as 1 I can see the big draft dr arick tick to living in this valley Is a railroad and this we ve will get in time but if a young man wants ants to build up a home and ifft some thing around him no now Is the time to do it and there a no better plate to make a start than right here cache valley Is a beautiful valley and Is developed almost as fr fir as a is possible it if the th people here put in as much effort labor and study and took as much advantage of the scientific as do thosa people our farms and communism would look just as beautiful 1 and prosperous there the 1 arc beautiful but only to a per eon son A 4 ho hai has dug and labored in sugar beets and nd other crops connected ath with intensified fanning farming can he realize how much effort it took to bring cache valley the praise it now receives rec etves our educational advantages are just as good if it not b tr than can be found in any rural community our out elemen tary schools 13 are up to date and are being manned by killed skilled teachers who have the int interest erst of the children at heart f id who put their whole soul I 1 into their s nork ork in no district that I 1 am RM familiar with are so many children carried back and forth from home to school 0 u in this district our bus service 1 Is very good aven in cache valley the people do not have hae the ser vici va e have hae here then our high school compiles com comp pires tres lay 0 orally with the leading school schools in the state the graduates going from this school to outside universities and colleges rank among the leaders and carry off the honors in the colleges col lenes we cant move away or go outside and improve our school advantage advantages unless we so go to salt lake city or seme other cen point where we would lie deprived of the freedom nf f outdoor life a d 1 contact with nature which in the development of a lambly far surpass any tiny mechanical mer hankal advantages I 1 that the denze population promotes j not are young people taken care of but the educational advantages of the adult population Is I 1 being provided tor for in a great measure as can be found any where in the west along with the smith hughes work and the assistance of the county agents and horn home demonstrator we have the U D I 1 C that leads any other cut outdoor doo r educational gathering in the country secretary wllbur wilbur vi when hen he s as here in august stated that jowh nowhere re in america would such a gathering or convention be found as was found fou nd at the last U U I 1 a 0 |
