Uini&h home run power shocks Bruins, buv Uve bGebaSSers lose game, 12-5 Kurt Robb and Larry Crowl belted out I homers for the Uintah Utes, but that t wasn't enough as the Mountain View c Bruins clobbered the Vernal crew, 12 to o j, in a home game at Union High School in Roosevelt, Thursday. The Utes were forced to play Mountain View in i Roosevelt as Tuesday's snow made the j Ite diamond unplayable. I Mountain View grabbed a 3-0 lead in C Jie top of the first inning in the first t Same. Dale Cranney motored to first s base on an error and darted to third base. t Dean Kelshaw singled and Nate Jensen I walked to load up the bases with zero I uts. Scott Bunnell was walked and Cranney Cran-ney crossed home plate for a 1-0 Moun- s tain View lead. H t Jerry Paulsen of Mountain View hit a s shot to Ute infielder and he forced Bun- L ell out at second base, but instead of go- ing for the doubleplay, he fired the ball r lohome plate. The throw was wild and Kelshaw and Jensen scored to increase the Mountain View lead to three runs. Mark Judkins flied out and Paulsen was a lagged out at second base when he was f "ailed on a stealing attempt due to a perfect throw by Ute catcher, Darin Nelson. 8 f The Utes' first two batters, Randy g lson and Larry Crowl flied out, but a Kurt Robb put the Utes on the f scoreboard when he massacred a pitch F !' the Mountain View hurler with a J "ighty blast over the left field fence for t jihome run. However, the Ute coring threat died as Mike Robbins truck out with two men on the base aths. , Mountain View scored one run in the ap of the fifth inning to take a 4 to 1 lead ver the Uintah Utes. Robb retired Cran-ey Cran-ey due to three strikes, but Kelshaw rip-led rip-led the ball just inside fair territory in ight field for a double. Jensen blasted tobb for a double and Kelshaw crossed ome plate with Mountain View's fourth un. Bunnell was walked, but Paulsen truck out. Judkins was walked to load p the bases, but Robb turned on the pithing pit-hing juice as he struck out Jolley and 3 get the Utes out of danger. McNamara and Jerry Young struck ut for the Utes in the bottom of the fifth nning, but Randy Nelson kept the Utes live in the inning with a free pass to first iase. Crowl presented new baseball hope o the Uintah Utes when he blasted the iall over the center field fence for a two-un two-un homer, which cut the Bruin lead to ne run at 4-3. Robb flied out to end the nning. The Bruins upset the Uintah Ute come-ack come-ack bid as they erupted for four runs n the top of the sixth inning to take an to 3 advantage. Morrow grounded out, iut a new baseballer in the game, Chris 'eterson delivered a single. Cranney ras walked and Kelshaw flied out. ensen singled to knock in Peterson and three more runs scored on a tnree-run homer by Bunnell. Paulsen grounded out to end the inning. Uintah was behind by five runs, but they weren't ready to dig a grave out in the lone prairie as they exploded for two runs and cut the Bruins' lead to three runs at 8-5. Abegglen grounded out, but Wood singled. Darin Nelson struck for a double and drove in Wood. A bunt by Gary Swim scored Nelson, but Swim was tagged out on a stealing try at second base. McNamara struck out for the third out. Judkins reached first base on a low throw to the bag and Jolley got on the base paths when McNamara dove for the ball and had the white object bounce out of his glove when he hit the ground. The next batter flied out, but Peterson singled singl-ed to drive in Judkins. A pitch in the dirt put runners on second and third and a shot by Cranney dropped just inside the right field line for a single, which drove in Jolley with a 10 to 5 lead. The Mountain View Bruins scored two more runs for a 12 to 5 advantage. Peterson Peter-son scored on a sacrifice fly by Kelshaw and a single by Jensen knocked in Cranney Cran-ney with run number 12. Uintah had one base runner in the bottom bot-tom of the seventh inning, but he was stranded at second base. Young led off with a whif and Randy Nelson was walked. walk-ed. Nelson stole second base, but Crowl struck out. Robb's shot at the fence was caught for the third and final out of the ball game. .. - , .. N " LOCAL FISHERMEN landed this 9-foot Marlin on a 6-day trip last week to LaPaz, Mexico. The Vernal foursome fished along the Baja Peninsula, in the bay and in the ocean, and caught 12 tunas in the 50 pound range and the large Marlin weighing over 200 pounds.
