Exercise isa way of life Not only is diet and nutrition imixirtant in weight loss, exercise plays a big roll in losing and maintaining weight. A very popular form of exercise today is aerobics. Webster's dictionary defines aerobics as living, active, or occuring only in the presence of oxygen. "In the church they tell us that our bodies should be healthy and kept in shape," said Becky Jackson, aerobic teacher for the Davis LDS Third Ward. Most of the LDS wards throughout this area have aerobic classes set up for anyone interested in participating in this form of exercise. "It's a lot easier to get going and do them," stated Mrs. Jackson when asked about doing exercises together as a group. She says being together and doing them together makes it so that it isn't as hard to do. Aerobic exercises can be obtained on tapes and records with instructions on how to do the different types of exercises so those who wish to do them in their private homes can. Mrs. Jackson told how they start out with light exercises to get warmed up. Then they progress to medium and then to heavy cardiovascular exercises and then back to light exercises to cool down. "They give you a lot more stamina," said Mrs. Jackson. Connie Cook, a participant of the class, said, "I think it will save me a lot of money." She has been attending aerobic classes and says she hasn't been to a chiropractor in the last two years. "I think it is necessary," Mrs. Cook stated when asked about the class and it's benefit. The Resource Directory at the Uintah Basin Health Department has a list of people in charge of various aerobic, exercise, and fitness classes for those interested in becoming a part of them. There are many programs throughout the community offering services of this type. Exercise is a way of life. It makes you feel better as well as look better. "What good does it do you to be thin if you don't feel good?" asked Jean Marie Anderson, registered dietician and teacher for Utah Valley Hospital weight control classes. It's important to feel good as well as look. good. There are many programs set up to fit your needs. i ; 1 l -" ,-y ' f M i s" I 7 v " . i ; ....-. -i BECKY JACKSON, teacher of the aerobic class, not only instructs in-structs those participating on what and how to do the aerobics, she does them with them.
