The facility will serve the entire Uintah Basin. Building of juvenile facility on schedule Building of multi-use facility for emergency youth shelter as well as juvenile detainment in criminal matters is on schedule, according to the Utah Department of Social Services. The facility, being built next to the Social Services office at 1052 West Market Drive, should be completed sometime in November, said Doug Gayle, Department of Social Services, Vernal. The building is one of three new secure non-secure facilities. A second is being built in Blanding and a third will be built in Richfield. The general contractor at the Vernal site is National General Builders, Salt Lake City, which submitted the low bid of $303,000. The facility will have a capacity of eight, or four each in the , secured and non-secured areas. Juveniles charged in criminal matters have been transported to a facility in Springville. Uintah County will pay $100,000 of the cost, while the state will pay the remainder, according to McCord Marshall, Social Services Uintah Basin district director. The 1 state and counties share responsibility for juvenile offenders while the state assumes the burden of emergency shelter for youth. The secure area will be equipped with bunks, a wash basin and toilet in each living unit and a visiting area. The nonsecure non-secure part will include individual bedrooms, kitchen, dinning area and laundry room. |
