Decs The team with the long name, Freestone Construction-A & A Electric Basin Bailers used the long ball to win first place in the first annual Bailer Classic as five homers were belted in 24-5 triumph over Strout of Roosevelt, Saturday in Vernal. Three of the five homers were slugged by John Greene, who had two homers in one inning. Home run fever didn't take place in the top of the first inning as the Bailers had a lead of only 1-0. Gary Monsen led off with a double and Greene struck out. Craig Monsen helped advance his brother with a single, which placed Gary on third base. Arvel Tassainer delivered a sacrifice fly, which drove in Gary Monsen with the first run of the game. Marty Mangum flied out to end the inning. Strout's Paul Betts was walked and Rick Browning grounded into a double play. Ace Davis connected on a shot close to the fence for a double and Don Solmonson was walked. However, the Bailers got out of the jam when Wayne Allred struck out. The Bailers were blanked in the top of the second inning, but Strout was not as they scored four counters for a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second. Ken Olsen singled, but Allan Frandsen flied out. Dave Densley flied out, but George Jackson nabbed a single, which placed Olsen on second base. Guy Coleman singled to drive in Olsen with a 1-1 tie. Jackson moved to third base and a single by Betts scored Jackson and gave Strout a 2-1 edge. Strout wasn't finished in the run scoring department as Browning belted a single to knock in Coleman and Betts scored on a single by Davis for a 4 to 1 advantage. Solmonson flied out to Shawn King close to the fence for the final out. Vernal's Bailers were behind by three runs going into the top of the third inning, but after the Bailers' half of the inning was concluded, Strout was behind by ten runs, 14-4. Ted Taylor led off with a double for the Bailers and Gary Monsen smashed a double to drive in Taylor. Greene ripped pitcher, Jackson, for a two-run homer, which tied up the game at 4-4. Craig Monsen gained a two-bagger and Tassainer nabbed a double to knock in Monsen with a 5-4 edge. Mangum singled to score Tassainer and moved to third base on a double by King. Lowell Aycock reached first base on an error and Mangum scored. Scott Kavanaugh ripped a double to score King and a sacrifice fly by Dave King drove in Aycock with a 9-4 lead. Taylor flied out, but Gary Monsen netted a double to send home Kavanaugh. Monsen leaped on home plate due to a two run homer by Greene, which was the second in the inning for the slugger. Craig Monsen gained an inside the park homer to give the Bailers' a 13-4 lead. Monsen gained a triple and moved to home plate on an error. Tassainer delivered a 14-4 lead to the Bailers with a mighty home run shot. Mangum gained a double, but Shawn King flied out to end the marathon inning. Strout cut the Bailers' lead to nine runs at 14-5 with one counter in the bottom of the third inning. Allred nabbed a single, moved to second on a single by Olsen, advanced to third on a single by Fransen and scored on a sacrifice hit by Densley. Greene turned in an outstanding play on the final out as he nabbed a ball hit by Betts and fired it to Taylor, who was covering first base. The Bailers added six runs in the top of the 4th inning for a 20-5 advantage. Aycock nabbed a double and Dave King got on the base paths on an error. Gary Monsen hit a shot that bounced off the fielder's glove to score Aycock. Greene smashed a double to drive in King and Craig Monsen ripped a double to knock in his brother, Gary Monsen and Greene. Tassainer nabbed a double to score Monsen and Mangum singled to send home Tassainer with a 20-5 lead. Davis nabbed a single for Strout in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Solmonson hit into a double play to end the inning. The Bailers were blanked in the top of the fifth inning. Allred and Olsen singled for Strout in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the fourth inning blues struck Strout once again as Frandsen hit into a doubleplay. Frandsen's fly ball was nabbed by shortstop, Aycock, who fired to second baseman, Craig Monsen, to complete the doubleplay as Allred was caught off the bag. Densley flied out to end the inning. Greene gained his third homer of the game with a four bagger in the top of the sixth for a 21-5 lead. Craig Monsen and Tassainer got on the base paths and Mangum delivered a three-run homer to give his team a 24-5 advantage. Strout was blanked in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Bailers won the title by the score of 24-5. The Bailers downed Young's Paint, 10 to 4 and Strout edged High Country, 17 to 15, and Rocky Mountain Glass thumped Tosco, 12 to 7. The Bailers edged Rocky Mountain Glass, 18 to 17, Friday. Tosco toppled Strout, 15 to 13 and Young's Paint thumped High Country, 20 to 12, Saturday morning. Young's Paint nipped Tosco, 10 to 6 and Strout downed Rocky Mountain Glass, 18 to 14. The Bailers downed High Country, 11 to 3. The Tosco crew edged the Bailers 25-20 25-20 and Rocky Mountain Glass downed High Country, 21 to 8, Saturday afternoon. High Country nipped Tosco, 14 to 13 and Strout edged Young's Paint, 13 to 11. Rocky Mountain edged Young's Paint, 5 to 4 and the Bailers thumped Strout, 24 to 5, Saturday evening. First place in the Bailer Classic was won by the Bailer team with a mark of 4 wins and 1 loss. Strout and Rocky Mountain Glass posted records of 3-2 and Young's Paint and Tosco has 2-3 marks.
