Show City street foreman arrested A foreman in Vernal City's street department is free on $2,000 bond after his arrest on a misdemeanor theft charge involving a truck load of the city's gravel. He has also been charged with two other misdemeanor counts of auto burglary involving a pair of vehicles impounded by the city. The attorney represented Burt McNeil, 55, entered not guilty pleas to all three charges last week in 7th Circuit Cir-cuit Court. A spokeperson for Vernal City said McNeil has been "let go" not because of the arrest, but because he used city road base for personal purposes. McNeil was arrested April 21 by city detective Sgt. Darrell Lance. Lance said he received a complaint from city employee Sam Aires, who said he delivered a load of road base gravel to McNeil's house on McNeil's orders. Lance said further investigation revealed that a jeep antenna and a tool box with tools were taken without authorization from vehicles in the city impound yard. 'This is the first time i this kind of incident) in-cident) has come to our attention," Lance said. The incidents allegedly occurred oc-curred March 5. Lance said McNeil surrendered sur-rendered after being summoned to the police department's detective division late in the afternoon on April 21. The city's spoksperson said McNeil was hired last August or September. |
