Show Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-5333 Services held in Dutch John for Jared Williams Jared William's funeral service was held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 20 at the Flaming Gorge Elementary School in Dutch John. He died of an apparent heart attack at the ranch at Minnie's Gap. His body was found Saturday morning. Town beautification for Manila will be April 28, reported Jolene Carter, town council member in charge. This is a real clean up day. The town will have a truck available to haul trash, limbs, etc. (not garbage) to the sanitary landfill. Senior citizens who find that some of the limbs are too big for them to handle may ask the Manila High School students to do it for them. The Manila High School students will be helping from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. A prize will be given to the class picking up the most trash. Residents can clean their yards as best they can between now and April 28 and place the trash where it can be loaded. Utah Lion's Mobile Clinical Van was at the Senior Citizen Center in Manila on Saturday, April 17. This clinic, held by the Daggett County Lion's Club, was for free testing for all ages. Testing was for glaucoma, blood sugar, hearing and blood pressure. Testing was run by Lion members and wives as follows: Bob Meinrod, Brent and Wanda Larson, Lar-son, Allan and Rena Pallesen, and Linda Beckstead. Twenty-five people participated in the testing. It is hoped that this clinic can be held annually. Vickie Genoff, University Extension Agent for Sweetwater County, met with the M&H Homemaker's Club at the Manila High School cafeteria at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 15. She presented a lecture on stress. The club "It" packages were won by Kathy Meinrod, Ferl Briggs and Wanda Larson. Hostesses were Pam Viar, Peggy Briggs and Edie Pallesen. Brant Meinrod, a member of the Flaming Gorge AAU Wrestling Club, took 2nd place honors and a silver medal at the State AAU Champion Wrestling Tournament held in Cheyenne, Wyo., last weekend. The State meet was for boys ages 15 and over. The younger boys from the Flaming Gorge Club will go to the District Tournament in Rock Springs, Wyo., on April 24. The top three from each weight class will then go to their State Tournament to be held in Rock Springs, also, on May 8-9. Hank Gutz is the coach for the Flaming Gorge Club. This is the first year for the chartered AAU club. Local residents, parents and officers of the club join in wishing the local boys good luck. The Manila High School Honor Roll has been released for the third quarter of the 1981-82 school year. Listing the names in descending order, they are as follows: Natalie Radosevich, Mike Radosevich, Rhonda Sandquist, Melanie Wilde, Marcie Briggs, Kirstien Bru, Becky Barber, Robin Sadlier, Starla Despain, Monica Wilde, Alan Friedman, Michele Steinaker, Matthew Briggs and Melissa Steinaker. The AstroVan from the Hansen Planetarium in Salt Lake City, was at the Manila High School Friday. This AstroVan brings presentations and exhibits to Utah schools such as "Space Shuttle Program," "Life in Space," and "Astronomy", plus 4 others. The presentations and exhibits of models of space crafts and moon rocks were set up in the science room by Glenn Taylor from the Hansen Planetarium. Students were changed each period so all would get to see the exhibit. Principal Stan Stewart was able to see a few of the presentations and said they were very interesting. Between 8-10 p.m. they set up on the football field to look at the stars, planets and they saw a few galaxies too. The people of Daggett County have a Bulletin Board to be used by the town, county and school. A large bulletin board has been built and is being placed near the Manila Post Office so that Manila people will be able to read the notices when going after their mail. The bulletin board was built by Mike Radosevich and Jeff Shipton as a shop project under the direction of Bill Nelson, shop teacher. Town treasurer Doris Zohner and Mayor Carole Scott attended a treasurer's workshop in Park City, Utah. The treasurer's workshop is sponsored by the League of Cities and Towns and is an educational process for Mayor Scott. Mrs. Geo. Ellsworth underwent surgery in Roosevelt, on Tuesday. She is reported to be doing will and expected ex-pected home Monday. The weather station at Manila does not have a wind velocity gauge, but the wind was very strong on Sunday. The temperature was 52 but felt much colder penetrating insulated clothing. Manila has had a great deal of wind lately. Even without low temperatures, most days have been chilly. |
