The Provo Meet, which was held July 17, is considered the biggest C meet of the year, according to Vernal Swim Team officials. Contestants competed in close races as often first, second and third places were separated by twenty hundreths of a second. Vernal's Vipers garnered medals and ribbons in the Provo Meet and the honors went to Mike Sonnie, who placed first in the 100 meter freestyle; to Cammy Burke, who snared sixth in the 200 freestyle; to Jerry Hodgkinson, who placed fourth in the 25 meter breast stroke and to Derrick Boyce, who placed third in the 100 meter backstroke, sixth in the 200 individual medley and sixth in the 100 meter freestyle. The girls' relay team, Macie Miller, Leah Halverson, Dianna Schambers and Cammy Burke, placed first in the medley relay. Sonnie is the only Vernal swimmer to receive his B time in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle event, but there are several other team members, who are close to achieving this goal. Every Vernal team member garnered honors in the Meeker Meet, July 24 and a new member Danny Fontaine, who had never competed in a meet before, helped his team win a relay race. Boyce collected first place in the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter individual medley. He also placed second in the 50 meter freeshi. i, Miller placed fifth in the i fy r butterfly stroke and Brand! 2? captured fourth place in the ' backstroke and sixth in the Z freestyle.
