Show Ballot names out of hat Utah Lt. Govenor David Monson drew names out of a hat to tryout a new law eliminating the advantage of being the first name on the ballot. Monson drew names of state school board candidates to form the ballot for the September primary election. The lieutenant governor said the new law produced a significant increase in the number of candidates running for nine positions. There are 57 running. In District 9, which includes Uintah County, the candidates include Wayne Reid, Vernal, Karly Shisler, Ballard; Barbara . Ann Smith, Roosevelt; Esbern Baadsgarard, Spanish Fork; Kaye Westwood, Payson and Dan S. Hunter, Huntington. The new law was pushed by Dr. M. Richard Maxfield, a private consultant and school board candidate, who through research convinced the legislature that the first-position advantage on the ballot was unfair and tended to |
