I Union JV Cougars netf overtfime win Union's junior varsity team was behind by 21 points at the end of the third quarter and by 17 points with six minutes remaining, but the Roosevelt crew staged an amazing rally as they edged Moab in overtime 73 to 70 Friday in Roosevelt. Many junior varsity games are real bores because a lot of top players are saved for the varsity encounter and this appeared to be true as Moab had leads of 15-8, first quarter; 33 20, second quarter; 51-30, third quarter and 55 38 with six minutes to go All of a sudden the game went from a dull game to a heart pounding, feet stomping, hand clapping encounter as Union bombed Moab 13 to 1 to reduce the Red Devil lead to five points 56 to 51. The highlights of the streak were a steal and layup by 5'7" Mike Dastrup, three-point play by Ronnie Mortensen i and hustling play by 5'5" Mike Ross. Mortensen connected on two field goals to cut Moab's lead to two points 57-55. but Union failed on two field goal tries and Moab jumped out to a 61-55 lead. Wayne Gingell put in a rebound shot and Mortensen hit two field goals to narrow the Moab lead to one point at 62-61 with 47 second left. Moab hit one out of two free throws for a 63-61 lead, but Union went to the well once again and Mortensen produced a field goal, which tied up the game at 63-63 with 19 second remaining. A tall Moab eager went to the foul line with three seconds left and he missed the first free throw. He connected on the second shot, but the one point lead was erased because a Moab eager moved into the lane just as the ball was given to the free throw shooter and the tame was forced into overtime. Mortensen connected on another field goal to give Union a 65 to 63 lead, but Moab tied up the game at 65-65. The Red Devils nabbed a two point advantage ad-vantage on two successful free throws, but Dastrup popped in a shot for a 67-67 tie. Moab put in two more free throws, but Scott Wilson fired in a two-pointer and Dastrup hit two charity throws to give the Cats a 71-69 advantage. Moab added another free throw to cut the Union lead to one point, but Dastrup ripped the net for two free throws with one second left to give the Cats a 73 to 70 come from behind triumph. Dastrup was the top scorer for Union with 22 points. He pumped in seven field goals and was 8 for 8 from the foul line. Dastrup scored 20 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and the overtime period. The Union guard had 14 points in the fourth quarter and six nnin, . overtime period.
