The first drawing will be Saturday at the Safeway parking lot at 11:00 a.m. 'TurEtey Days1, Sanaa's uisev to Sisirf GhrSsf mess seeisosi Seventy-five turkeys and roasts will be given, away Saturday to begin the holiday season with Vernal's Turkey Days, sponsored by the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce retail merchants mer-chants organization for the ninth year. Four drawings will be held for the 3110 turkeys and beef roasts. The Nov 2H ana Dec. 5 drawings will be held at the Safeway parking lot beginning at 1! a.m. The final two will be held in .the Zions Bank parking lot in the center of Vernal. Dec. 12 and 19. The turkeys donated by the Vernal merchants and the roasts by Uintah Cattlemen's Association. ''All you have to do is come and get a ticket, we pull them out of a box and if you're the lucky one you win a turkey or roast." said Irvin Haws, committee chairman. Also on Saturday at 1 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will arrive in Vernal by helicopter at the Vernal Jr. High football field. At 1:15 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Clans will visit with kiddies at the junior high cafeteria, entering through the west door, until 4 p.m. Vernal's Main Street Christmas lights will be turned on at 5:30 p.m. also Saturday. Candy will be given to the kiddies and pictures will also be taken. Vernal Lions Club planted a small pine tree in front of the county building ' Saturday as a nationwide tree planting program. The traditional Christmas tree will also be set by the cluh. The 1 ,adv Lions Club is in charge of the tree decorations. The DECA Club at UHS and the 4 H organization are helping make the decorations. Utah Power & Light Co., Mountain ivll and Vernal City have installed the Christmas lights on Main Street from i;th Fast to 7th West and on Vernal .Avenue Irotn 1st South to 1st North. The Current Topics Club is bagging the candy. The Kiwanis Club will help with the crowd control at the junior high school Saturday. Vernal BPW Club is in charge of the annual Christmas poster and window painting contest. Twenty-nine business windows in the Vernal area will receive Christmas paintings Wednesday by the winning students. Winners in the poster content are: Uintah High School, first place, Michelle Green; second place, Janette .umbo; third place, Steve Gober; honorable mention. Joe Ann Juarez, Kim Nelson. Laurie Sizemore. Laurel Herrmann and Calie Pfeifer. Junior high school winners: first place, Tracy Fisher; second place. Honnie Ames; third place. Darin Price; honorable mention.
