Show Bottles might turn into boards The plastic Boft-drink bottle sitting in your refrigerator might become a board uftod to build a home, tile for floors, insulation for walls, or fill in a pillow. These popular bottles are made from polyester and as their use increases, in-creases, researchers are experimenting ex-perimenting with ways to recycle this increasing amount of used polyester. Some scientists have already developed de-veloped a wood-like material that can be sawed, drilled, and nailed just like wood. Other researchers have found ways to turn the plastic bottles into wall tile, flooring, corrugated cor-rugated roofing, home insulation, and fill for pillows and sleeping bags. However, most of these developments are still at the laboratory-testing singe, and it might be years before recycling plants are built. How large the polyester recycling industry will become is not known, but the potential nizo is huge. Amoco Chemicals Corporation estimates that polyester now accounts ac-counts for one-third of all U.S |
