Show Bonneville Unit repayment contract approved by board The Central Utah Water Conservancy District's board has approved a $258 million repayment contract for the Central Utah Project's Bonneville Unit. The resolution the board adopted Thursday of last week said the contract will not become effective until it is approved by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior and by voters in the district. It must also be confirmed by order of the 4th District Court. Edward Clyde, the district's attorney, at-torney, told the board he did not see any danger of the contract not getting . approved under the Reagan administration. ad-ministration. Mr. Clyde urged the board to submit the contract as soon as possible so the project's financial situation will not be in jeopardy. "It's going to be a problem for us if we go beyond the current budget year without getting this ratified by the voters," he said. The contract is a supplement to a 1975 agreement which required the district to reimburse the federal government $156 million of the unit's estimated $325 million cost. Since that contract was signed, the cost has escalated to more than $1 billion. The supplement is being added to the first contract to bring the district's repayment obligation in line with the higher estimate. The board also decided to research other studies of the proposed Jor-danelle Jor-danelle Dam to determine if an independent in-dependent study is has committed to fund is necessary. |
