The Main Street eiust about sapped the life out of many shoppers and businesses and some have become grumpy and down on everything, but the end is in sight. This Saturday everyone will have a chance to celebrate the near completion com-pletion of the Main Street reconstruction. recon-struction. It will feel great to celebrate the fact that Vemal actually survived the summer of 1979, when Main Street was completely closed off for three months. Things could have been worse. What if it could not be finished before cold weather hit? Can you imagine how long winter would be if Main Street was closed until next spring? Perhaps a group should organize called the VRVMS (Veterans of the Reconstruction of Vernal's Main Street). They could have a celebration each year on the day designated as the official finish date and perhaps make up some of the profits they lost this summer. Seriously, me main aireei pi ujci i a credit to the pride of our community. It is an indication that Vernalites care about how our town looks and are willing to undergo the expense and inconvenience necessary to improve and beautify our downtown area. We salute those who have been patient through this trying ordeal. To the contractor and worker who have tried their best to do a good job as fast as possible, to the business community who have suffered decreases in sales, and finally to the downtown shoppers, who have suffered all kinds of obstacles to shop, we say thanks for enduring the unusual hardships. The summer of '79 will go down in history as Vernal's downtown blitz, but Main Street will now become a monument for the enjoyment and convenience of Vernal shoppers. |
