Show (Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-3463 Daggett County hosts Utah Assn. of Governments Daggett County hosted the annual meeting of the Utah Association of Governments with Daggett officials at the Red Canyon Lodge at 6:30 p.m. August 8. This was for County employees em-ployees and their partners to meet with officers of the Utah Association of Governments. Town officials were also invited with their partners. Those from the Utah Association of Governments were Jack Tanner, Executive Director-State Association of Governments; Brent Gardner, Assistant Director; Doug Hunt, President; LaVoy Martin, Lady Vice-President; Vice-President; Bill Huish, Vice-President; Barbara Montello, Secretary and Treasurer. LaRay Sadlier, Chairman of Daggett County commissioners, was master of ceremonies. Each official introduced himself and his partner. Short talks were given by officials from the Utah Association of Governments, followed by a short question and answer period before dinner. The Daggett County Art Council met at Manila High 'School August 8. Directing the meeting was Layne Potter and Dolores Redden. A Board of. Directors was formed. A form for a statement of goals was reviewed. A survey was presented and reviewed with a few changes to be made before being sent to the people of the area to find out what they would like. A representative will need to be chosen to represent Daggett County of the State Art Council. The Council will make more plans after meeting with Lynn Waring, representative of the Utah Art Council, at the Manila High School at 1 p.m. August 14. Manila Community booth received a second place trophy at the Daggett-Sweetwater Daggett-Sweetwater County Fair in Rock Springs August 8-12. The booth was ' sponsored by the Manila M & L Homemaker's Club. It also received a yellow third place ribbon in community achievement. The theme for the booth i was "Do You Remember When". It was planned and arranged by Edie Pallesen and Peggy Briggs with several members and non-members of the club assisting. Kevin Ralphs received $1075 for his Grand Champion market hog at the Daggett-Sweetwater County Fair at the Saturday night auction. The hog weighed 215 pounds and sold at $5.00 per pound. Prices stayed high for all animals during the Fair. The grand champion sheep sold at $15.75 per pound; the champion beef at $6.75. The lowest price for beef was $1.15 (only one at that price-most of them from $1.80 to $3.00 per pound). The lowest sheep price paid was $1.70 per pound. The lowest hog price was $1.50. Most of the " sheep brought $2 or more all the way through. The Nimble Needles 4-H Club cooking project girls received the following awards: Heidi Steinaker-coffee cake-purple cake-purple (State), corn meal muffins-ilue; muffins-ilue; Michelle Steinaker-cinnamon rolls tree-purple (State), Polish tea cookies-blue, crescent rolls-blue; Melissa Steinaker-bran muffins-purple (State), honey-topped coffee cake-purple cake-purple (State), and Zuchini bread-red; Melissa Schofield-banana bread-blue, orange crunch muffins-blue. Gwen Reed entered cooking, but has not learned what her awards were. The new town well has been drilled. It was drilled to 615 feet before putting in the casing and sand packing it. It is reported to have an output of 100 gallons per minute. Twila Kesterson is back in Manila and will be teaching at the Manila High School again this year. The Manila Mutual will hold a dance at the LDS Recreational Hall in Manila Friday night. Those who attend will be 14 years of age or over. On Tuesday evening the Manila Mutual girls will meet at the Manila LDS Church at 6 p.m. to go swimming. Visiting Leon Jensen this weekend were Lynette Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, Utah and Tammy Dennison of Salt Lake City. These girls attended Snow College with Mrs. Jensen. One entry at the Daggett-Sweetwater County fair held in Rock Springs . August 8-12 was the 4 year old, 3300 pound steer "King Kong" from Vernal. |
