Show Bloodmobile coming here Monday The bloodmobile will be in Vernal Monday, August 20. Doners will be received at the National Guard Armory between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m. Blood program chairman, Neil Deets is asking for an increase in community support of this vital service. Blood supplies sup-plies are dangerously low in the region said Deets. He also reports an important impor-tant change in procedures to receive blood from the American Red Cross. The philosophy of the Red Cross is that "blood is a public resource and should be available to anyone in need, regardless of their donation history, their abiblity to replace blood, or ability to provide doners. This idea of "community "com-munity responsibility replaces the individual in-dividual responsibility" of providing replacement donors or "banking" of individual in-dividual credits. This change does not effect our donors in terms of recording donations or group participation, advised Deets. "It does, however, effect the procedures pro-cedures which must be followed to receive blood from the Red Cross. It is now necessary for the patient or member of the immediate family to request re-quest Red Cross blood assistance at admission ad-mission to the hospital. In case of emergency the request should be made as soon as possible after admission. Open heart surgery is the exception to this rule. Some hopsitals do not accept ac-cept replacement blood from the Red Cross for this operation. Patients requiring re-quiring this surgery should inquire if the hospital they are in accepts blood from the Red Cross for open heart surgery. To promote this vital community service ser-vice volunteer help is again being provided pro-vided by several organizations. The Kiwanianns under the direction of President Janet Bowles, operates the canteen, registeration desk and donor room assistance. Evylyn Herbst of the local nursing association is arranging the services of registered nurses. The Kommonettes Club, Chris Benson, president, will conduct a telephone campaign to notify previous donors and potential donors of the time and place. These volunteers are very much appreciated ap-preciated and are vital to the successful operation of this program, concluded Deets. |
