Uintah's junior varsity team toppled Murray, but the Utes' varsity var-sity team was defeated by the Spartans in Vernal Ver-nal on October 9. ynimtelhi Uftes (SIrin)o)(o,u, odd DDeylboHD wo ITS Uintah High School's varsity volleyball team toppled the Jordan Beetdiggers on the road, October 4 for their first Region 7 victory of the 1979 season. The victory placed the Utes in fifth place. The Utes smashed the Beetdiggers, 15 to 10 in the first game and thumped the Jordan team in the second game, 15 to 3. Eileen Howell nabbed six service points in the first game, and Chris Mott fired four. Also scoring points for Uintah in the first game were: Lois Merrell, 2; Dairann Abegglen, 2 and Jodene Merkley, 1. Teresa Smith was the top scorer for the Utes in the second game with ten counters. Lois Merrell added two points and Jodene Merkley, Dairann Abegglen and Eileen Howells scored one point each. The first place team in Region 7, Murray, remained undefeated and in first place when they toppled the Uintah Utes in Vernal on October 9, 15 to 2 in the first game and 15 to 9 in the' second game. Chris Mott scored points for Uintah in the first game and the top scorer in the second game was Teresa Smith at six counters. Uintah was defeated by the Cyprus Pirates in an away contest on September Sep-tember 27, 15 to 3 in the first game and 15 to 11 in the second game. The Uintah varsity Utes won the first game, 15 to 7, in the October 2 battle with Judge Memorial in Vernal. However, Judge Memorial won the match when they nabbed victories in the second game, 15 to 8 and in the third game, 15 to 9. Dairann Abegglen fired in seven service points in the first game for Uintah, and Margie Daley popped in 5. Teresa Smith scored three points. Scoring points in the second game for Uintah were: Lois Merrell, 5; Janet Hall, 1 ; Dairann Abegglen, 1 and Kristy McNeill, 1. The Uintah Utes are in fifth place with a 1-3 record. Jordan is in last place at 0-4, and Murray is in first place at 5-0. 5-0. "We just need to become consistent. Consistency is our key. Uintah looks really good when they play as a team. Uintah will host the Cyprus Pirates in a Region 7 encounter Tuesday at G p.m. and 7 p.m. The Utes will battle the Bulldogs at Judge Memorial on October 25, and will host the Jordan Beetdiggers on October 30.
