Show by Joey Sasso CONFIDENTIAL REPORT: It will be one of the most poignant TV specials ever made: 60 minutes of home movies showing an Elvis Presley you've never seen before. The films, shot in the 1950s. '60s and 70s, show Elvis at his warmest and even at his silliest. "There's one scene where Elvis is wearing cut-off jeans and he holds his nose and goes down the slide into the swimming pool." said record producer Paul Lichter, one of the few people who've seen the films. "There's another of him running around with a water pistol, squirting everyone in sight. And there's another one of Elvis riding a horse at Graceland backwards. They also show a human side of Elvis with Lisa Marie like he was just another ordinary guy who liked playing with his daughter on a Sunday afternoon." Elvis' ex-wife, Priscllla, has agreed to narrate the special, we have just learned from her agent Rudy Tellez. "Nothing has been firmed up yet, but of course all the TV networks all expressed interest," he said. The home movies, taken in 8mm and Super-8. were all shot by Priscilla, or Elvis' personal aide Joe Esposlto, or by Elvis himself ... Kristy McNIchol is a real-life runaway from her TV family. The actress, who plays Buddy on 'Family,' refused to sign a new contract and will leave the show after this season to pursue a film career. BEHIND THE TUBE: Patty McCormack of The Ropers' TV series, says she's in love with handsome Broadway playwright Ernest Thompson. Thompson, whose 'On Golden Pond' is doing brisk business in New York, is 29. Patty's 33. They take turns flying coast to coast to spend time together . . . Lesley Ann Warren was offered $60,000 per segment to take on a starring role (that's since gone to Barbara Hershey) in NBC's 'From Here to Eternity' series. And that plus the fact William Devane is being paid $80,000 per episode for 'Eternity' should give you a clue as to how much the network is ready to pour into the show to . make it a hit . . . Another member of the famous Van Patten show biz family looks set for stardom. That's Jimmy (Dick's son and Vincent's brother), who's set to star in 'California Dreaming,' all about West Coast beach communities . . . Anne Lockhart, who played Sheba on the ill-fated 'Battlestar Galactica.' is in orbit these days with rock star Peter Frampton. They've been seen dining all over Hollywood . . . Making a TV comeback is one-time 'MASH' star Wayne Rogers who's just signed to star in 'Top of the Hill,' a two-part TV movie. BACKSTAGE ON TV: Daytime television's David Hasselhoff is a man of controversy. The 6-ft.-4-in. blond, blue-eyed star of the soap 'The Young and the Restless' has been labeled as everything from the next Robert Redford to a no-talent prettyboy. In reality, he is neither. "I don't like to talk about my looks. Somehow, whatever I say seems to turn out sounding vain, and that isn't what I want." David is very ambition oriented and aggressive. He admits, "I'm just using soaps as a stepping-stone." He is aware of and gleeful about his instant popularity. "Right now I've got two of the biggest agencies in the world fighting over me, and a year and two months ago they wouldn't even see me. Now they're going crazy!" ... A sign of how hard inflation has hit the TV industry is the soaring price for the rights to televise the Olympic Games. The rights for the 1962 winter games in Squaw Valley, Idaho, went for a mere $50,000. For the summer games in Moscow next year NBC will shell out $85 million ... TV actress Rosanna Arquette will co-star in the role of Debra Miller, whose mother, Shirley, will be played by Shirley Jones, star of 'Shirley,' the comedy drama series to be telecast Fridays on NBC, beginning in the fall. , j |
