Show USA VC begins processing nurse applicants The Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center announced this week preliminary plans for forthe forthe forthe the next Practical Nurse training class With the current training cycle almost half completed Jean Smith director of nursing at the Vocational School will vill begin processing new applications for forthe forthe forthe the class of 1978 scheduled to begin this September A NUMBER of applications have already been placed on file and other interested persons are urged to contact the Area Vocational School or Jean Smith directly as soon as possible so that all new applicants applicants applicants ap ap- ap- ap can be scheduled for testing and evaluation Mrs Smith explained that the tests that are given are to help the applicants determine where they may need some advance help prior to the start of formal training Nursing students should have a basic foundation in Math and the biological sciences to succeed in their profession proCession therefore new applicants should have had some prior preparation in those subject areas If the early testing shows that applicants need help they will have time to seek help in those areas and consider a up brush-up program where needed Another reason for early submission of applications is the necessity of limited enrollments Even though school fa facilities in the Health Science area will be adequate for larger numbers of students I medical facilities for the required clinical training will accommodate only 12 students at al the very maximum Also the Practical Nurse program is scheduled for 1700 hours of training Class work and clinical experience experience experience ex ex- ex- ex take 12 months to complete therefore all nursing students must be prepared to begin the initial week of training The class of 78 will begin school this September in the new Area Vocational Center building now nearing completion com com- The Health Science department is located in the south side of the east easl wing of the new building and will consist of classrooms lab offices and storage areas All student services will be available to nursing students including a variety of financial aids career counseling tes testing ting job placement and tutorial assistance as needed TilE THE LICENSED SEU Practical Nurse training program at the Area Vocational Center is state tate approved having complied fully with the rigid requirements of the Stale State hoard Board of Nursing in all program areas and is also included in the State Board for vocational educations education's accreditation of the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center In addition the nurses who have graduated from the program passed the licensing cen examinations with above average scores indicating the quality and thoroughness ot ut their preparation The I program of the VC is also listed in the official directory of approved nurse training programs published b by the National League of Nursing In conclusion Mrs South Smith urges all persons interested in health care to investigate the practical nurse program as a rewarding career choice where here they can provide needed service to area residents resident Ad Additional information is available at the Area Vocational Center m In n Roosevelt and Vernal Tentative deadline for sub submitting submitting applications to the program beginning this thUi fall faU September 1977 will be May 1 or sooner if the student enrollment limit is reached before that time |
