Douglas Chews Chew's mother named him after the mountain The birth occurred July 9 1902 making Doug as he came to be known the child in the family of 14 born to John Hoyle and Mary MaryEliza MaryEliza MaryEliza Eliza Metcalf Chew Growing up in the Browns Brown's Park area Doug remembers seeing some of the Wild Bunch He lie remembers seeing Big Dig Nosed George when his body was left hanging from life Doug said hed he'd always wanted an airplane So in 1947 48 with the help of Gib Bennett and Basin Flying Service he not only earned his pilots pilot's license but went to Wichita Kansas where he bought a Cessna His llis airport was on the hill rull above the ranch and it took him rum seven minutes to get to Vernal In winter he would scoop a path for the plane with a Cat and aiming at the trough in the snow would set the plane in it wings nearly touching the snow on either side Then one winter a hard wind unraveled the anchor ropes scooped the top off the hangar picked up the plane for his wife Since then the two have filled an Indian Mission their marriage has been sealed in the Temple and have enjoyed their work in the Church Douglas has been in the of the Sunday School worked on the finance committee for almost ten years to build the Jensen Ward Chapel At present he is the caretaker for the Jensen Cemetery Eleanor has always been active in the Church as a first counselor in the Relief Society presidency as a visiting teacher and as a charter member of Camp Escalante Daughters of the Utah Pioneers At present she is Relief Society Sunday session coordinator tor ONE SON and two daughters daughters' were born Dean Mrs Harry Melba Hill and Mrs Henry Glee Peltier Glee died July Julys 3 1973 They have 14 grand grand- children In 1963 Douglas was nearly killed by a
