Show Alpine forensic festival attracts Uintah students By Mark Interest in Speech and Debate at Uintah High is rapidly gaining Cr 1 momentum m as as exemplified exemplified exemplified exem- exem exem exem- by the number of students who attended the Alpine Forensics Festival Saturday January 29 Reaching the semi finals in oration an event where students give an 8 to 10 minute memorized speech were Amber Tullis and Linda Ambers Amber's speech was What America can do to reverse some negative trends in the US U.S. Linda attempts to persuade people that certain endangered species of wildlife add to our lives and need to be protected In impromptu speaking Anna Bowen reached the semi finals In one round she received a first place award and a superior rating In debate Carolyn Risk and Gabrielle Weston posted the best record with two wins and two losses Friday the Uintah students some received received some some expert demonstrations from Provo High students Last year Provo High placed second in the nation in debate and forensics The Uintah students were duly impressed by the talents and communicating skills of the Provo speakers Sometimes speech meets can bring out a surprising amount of dedication Many of the students were practicing speeches and refining debate cases in the bus on the way to Provo A few stayed up until 11 or 12 pm p.m. adding the finishing touches only to rise at 6 Saturday morning and leave for forthe forthe forthe the various events But the learning the fun and the laughter of new friendships friendship made it all worthwhile |
