Show It now seems highly probable that the Democrats will have a majority in the next House of Representatives. In Pennsylvania there is a serious split in the Republican party. A large proportion of the voters of that party in that state have rebelled against Cameronism and the control; of the machine, and there is a more determined warfare between the candidates of the Independents and regulars respectively, than is usual, between Democrats and republicans. In New York the schism in the Republican body is even more serious, and is all but certain to give the state to the Democrats. The Empire and Keystone states send the two largest delegations to Congress of all the states, and if a majority of the members of the congressional delegation from each of these states should be Democrats that party will have a working majority in the next House of Representatives. |
