Show DISGRACEFUL CONDUCT IN PROVIDENCE. Last Saturday evening, while the Logan Dramatic Club were performing "Evadne" in Providence Hall a most disgraceful disturbance was created both inside and outside the Hall by some boys who were full of whisky. When the performance first commenced, it was evident that the night would not pass without some disturbance. Three boys, "Dod" Peacock, of this city, "Danish," of Millville, and another whose name we did not learn, during the first act of the play, commenced to go in and out of the hall while the play was going on. T. O. Angell, Jr. who was keeping door told them that they must do one thing of the other, either stay in or keep out. But this did not avail and they still kept on going in and out. In the middle of the third act, two of them came in and commenced to carry on in a shameful manner. They made a rush for T. O. Angell, Jr., who had nothing with which to protect himself. The latter ran on the stage for a weapon of defense, returned to the door and with the assistance of others, put out the disturbers. The people, who were, during all this time, in a state of excitement, were called to order and the play proceeded. During the evening a fight occurred among the three boys mentioned, outside the hall, which attracted the audience, and nearly all the male juveniles got up from their seats and rushed to the door. The fight resulted in the badly using up of "Dod" Peacock. He was bruised and cut up by the two other boys in a frightful manner. During the whole evening the performance was interrupted to the annoyance and disgust of the audience. |
