Show ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. Last Sunday morning Thomas Williams, station agent at Collinston, and a man named Thomas Irvin were making preparations to go hunting. Mr. Williams was trying to uncock a pistol that was cocked but did not succeed, when Mr. Irvin took it, thinking he could make it work. The two men stood near together when Mr. Irvin who didn't know it was loaded, In trying to uncock the weapon discharged it. The ball entered Mr. Williams abdomen near the navel, and produced what he feared was a fatal wound. Dr. Ormsby was telegraphed for, and he took the first train for Collinston arriving only a few hours after the accident. The patient was ready to make his will and bid goodbye to earth. The Doctor quickly ascertained however that the wound was not dangerous. He traced the course of the ball and found it buried just above the right hip. An incision about an inch deep, revealed it. It had penetrated the tissues as deep as the transverse muscles of the abdomen, and had followed them around to the right side, without penetrating the abdominal walls. The Doctor left his patient in a fair way to speedy recovery. |
