Show ALMOST A. SCANDAL. For some time past a circumstance which took place on the night of the last ball in Logan Hall, has been mooted and referred to as evidence of scandalous conduct on the part of a certain young man and his partner who attended it. The facts, divested of extraneous surmises and assertions, are these: The young couple spoken of had been dancing till about eleven o'clock, when the young man left the ball room, went to the residence of a certain gentleman of the First Ward, and applied for a horse and buggy, which he said he would want for an hour or two. He obtained the horse and buggy, and then returned to the ballroom, where the young lady stepped into the buggy and rode away with him. They were gone for one to two hours, when the buggy was returned to the owner. While a midnight buggy ride from a ballroom to no one knows where, is, to say the least, a somewhat singular circumstance, and while no young lady of proper forethought and self respect would be likely to accept an invitation to take such a ride, it is scarcely fair to surmise from such an incident anything particularly scandalous without further evidence of it. The fact, however, that such a circumstance has given rise to such whisperings, ought to serve as a warning to our young people, particularly young ladies, to be very cautious how they compromise their reputations by indiscreet conduct. |
