Show "BEN BOLT". The performance of this beautiful drama in Logan Theatre on Tuesday evening of last week, was the best given by our home company this season. It was really an enjoyable entertainment, almost entirely free from "glitches" or other defects common to the company's playing. Miss Haws as "Alice" played well and with care. She improves steadily. Of the acting of Mr. Bywater as "Ben Bolt" it is not too much to say that it would have done credit to many a professional of established reputation. At times his portraiture of the heartbroken sailor was decidedly affecting. His gestures were graceful and appropriate, and his elocution throughout were good and at times particularly so. Mr. Kirkham looked and acted the villain "Ironlink" very well, while Mr. A Jones as "Reuben Rags" created a great amount of amusement, and did very well. Other members of the community did well, and all deserve earnest commendations. The farce "Larkin's Love Letters" passes off well, but the acting during it, while pretty good, was not equal to that in the drama. On Saturday evening the play of "Ben Bolt" will be repeated by special request of many who did not see it, and will be followed by the farce, "Barney the Baron." All who wish to witness our home dramatic company in their best performance thus far should attend. With proper encouragement they will improve steadily and rapidly. |
