Show JUBILEE AT HYDE PARK. We had the pleasure of attending the Sunday school Jubilee at Hyde Park on Sunday last, which was participated in by the Sabbath schools of Smithfield and Benson. Two sessions, one at ten and the other at two o'clock, were held, and on both occasions the house was filled to its full capacity, principally with children. There were present on the stand Apostle Moses Thatcher, Bishops Robert Daynes of Hyde Park, Geo. (George) E. Farrell of Smithfield and Alma Harris of Benson; Elders O. C. Ormsby and Fred Turner of the superintendency of the Sabbath schools of this Stake; Elder Samuel Smith of Brigham City, and other prominent brethren. The exercises consisted of singing by the children, recitations, and short addresses by several different brethren. Brother Simmons led the singing, and in the afternoon a vote of thanks was tendered to him for his zeal in the work of training the children to sing. The day was lovely, the exercises passed off with spirit and liveliness, a good spirit prevailed, and it was an occasion for the enjoyment of all present, both children and adults. The instructions imparted by the brethren who spoke were good, timely, and appropriate and on the whole, the jubilee was a gratifying success. On motion by Supt. (Superintendent) Ormsby a vote was taken that the children of the Sabbath schools present should each pay five cents towards the publication of the catechism in the Hawaiian language. Adopted unanimously. Apostate Moses Thatcher counselled the officers of the Sabbath schools to be careful to keep a perfect record of the names of the children who donated to the temple fund, with the amount donated, and gave other valuable instruction. We congratulate the managers of the jubilee on its perfect success. |
