Show STRANGE SLEEP FOLLOWED BY DEATH. On Sunday last, a lady residing in the 4th ward, feeling very nervous and unwell took a dose of a sedative medicine and retired to bed. She fell asleep at about half-past eight o'clock, and continued to sleep soundly all night and until the next morning, when her family endeavored to awaken her. Various means as bathing the face in cold water, and with whiskey, &c., (etc.), were resorted to, to arouse her, but to no purpose and she continued to sleep soundly all day Monday, Monday night, Tuesday and Tuesday night without showing a sign of consciousness. Early on Wednesday morning however, she showed some signs of consciousness, and later tried to speak to her son, a young man who attended at her bedside, but was unable to articulate an intelligible sentence, and at about half past nine o'clock, she died. Deceased's name was Mary Anderson. She was past middle age and a native of Denmark. |
