Show UNSURVEYED LANDS. Editor Leader: - For the benefit of parties settled on public lands as yet unsurveyed by government, and who wish said claims to be surveyed for the purpose of obtaining title to their lands, I will say that recent instructions from the Commissioner of the General Land Office provide the manner in which it may be effected. One or more persons living on the lands so unsurveyed can make application to the Surveyor General of the Territory for a survey, and make a deposit with the government for the cost of surveying a whole township - say $300 to $800, and receive certificates of deposit for the amount paid by them. When the land has been surveyed, these certificates may be used to pay for the entry of the land. Heretofore these certificates of deposit have not been transferable and could apply to only such land as was mentioned when the deposit was made. Now, however, these certificates may be applied on any land in any territory, just the same as land warrants or college scrip. Any further information on the subject will be freely given by me, at any time, to the persons interested. J. H. Martineau, U. S. (United States) Dep. (Department) Surveyor. |
