Show MISSIONARY LABORS.

Editor Leader - I left my home in Honeyville on the 17th of October last to fill a mission to the Southern States. At Ogden I joined a number of Elders, and we traveled together as far as Omaha; here we separated, they continuing their course eastward for Great Britain, while I took the Kansas City and St. Joseph line bound for Shady Grove, Hickman? co. [County], Tennessee, which place I reached Nov. 3d, meeting with John Morgan, president of the Southern Mission, and the elders laboring in the Tennessee Conference. Elder Joseph Argyle, who had charge of this conference has returned home, and Franklin Spencer is now presiding. Those left in this part of the mission are ??? Spencer, Hyrum Belnap, George H. Carver and myself to assist in spreading the Gospel in the south. We have had the pleasure of seeing seventeen of the honest in heart come forward and be initiated into the Kingdom of God. We have held many public meetings, forming many acquaintances and by the help of God have made many friends to the cause and removed a vast amount of prejudices. Many have invited us to visit them and make our home with them as long as we desired, and while the people in some localities now being preached in, turn a deaf ear, yet many new fields present themselves, and we trust much good will be done during the year 1881 by preaching to and gathering scattered Israel. Over 50 have emigrated from here to Colorado since the 9th of November last to join with the Saints where they anticipate making their future homes and desire to assist in building up the waste places in Zion. The subject of emigration is kept continually before the saints and their speedy removal urged. I think it would be a good thing if the Saints in Zion would assist their brethren and sisters who are yet in "Babylon" if in no other way, by writing them an encouraging letter, or by sending them some of the publications of the Church that they ????????? with the affairs of the Kingdom of God. We are calling upon men, and women, to come forward, and be co-workers with us and God to ????? out a reign of righteousness upon the earth. The power of god has been manifested in cases of remarkable healing. One man who was stricken with paralysis the third time is now recovering, and ere long will be able to do his own work. The health of the Elders is good and all are enjoying themselves in the service of our God; probably other Elders will be called to assist us as we have many invitations to preach which we cannot go fill owing to lack of time. It is my opinion from the few months experience I have had, that the youth ??? Zion, cannot be too diligent in preparing to go abroad and, proclaim the Gospel to the nation. For as yet, many who are ignorant of the affairs of the KIngdom are desiring to hear the Gospel preached. Hoping our ????? may all be ??? in the good work and that ??? may flourish upon the "Mountain of the Lord" I remain your brother in the covenant, Loronez [Lorenzo?] Hunsaker, Shady Gove, Hickman Co. [County], Tenn. [Tennessee] April 17, 1880. |
