Show THE MANIA FOR "bric a brac" will be exhausted soon; but at the present time it rages with unabated fury. Everything from a hideous night cap in variegated colors to a coach decrepit and shaky, so long as age sanctifies the article, has an honored place in American houses. The latest, however, is a rope of antiquated manufacture and finish which is proudly exhibited by an individual in Cleveland. Its peculiar merit consists in this, that it has been the boat by which eighteen men were carried across the dark river. It is an old executioner's rope, and has already taken a prominent part in nearly a score of hangings. |
