Show ' EDITORIALS, ELECTRIC LIGHT' By L. A. Hollenbeek Let the Uinta Power and Light Company Com-pany take notice, and give the people, through tlie Courier or the press, Its Justification for charging 15 rents per kilowatt for electric lights. Secretary Wilhur offers Boulder Dam power for 1.(53 mills per kilowatt. kilo-watt. Our Congressmen . from Utah are insisting that it be raised to 2 mills per kilowatt. That would probably prob-ably make a profit fund of 200 million dollars in 50 years. The purchasing companies could charge 5 mills or one half of a cent per kilowatt and make "good big money on the investment. invest-ment. The Utah Power and Light Company Com-pany charges 10O mills or 10 cents per kilowatt, which is about 20 times what the purchasing companies of Boulder Dam could charge and make good money.- The Uinta Power and Light Company charges 150 mills or 15 cents per kilowatt, for light, which would seem to be an unconscionable charge for light. If we have competitive companies, then the charge would be none of our business, for we could put in competitive competi-tive plants, and hence the Public Utilities Util-ities Commission has a right to regulate regu-late rates, and we have a right to know whether these rates are justi-felld justi-felld or not. These rates seem to le extortionate, and we have a right to know. We will not pass judgement until we have a chance to find out. Let the Uintah Power and Light Company disclose Its hand and. tell its patrons why Jt charges what would seem to be a price far beyond what it is Justified in charging. Tliis is a public matter, and the pub lic has a right to know. And this Is a call upon the company to let the public know the facts not. in generalities gener-alities but in detail of Investments, the cost and when the cost' was incurred, in-curred, and where, and the cost of upkeep and of running expense, and why the lights are so poor in the winter, win-ter, and If the company can't do any better in the winter, then why should It charge for light or power that It cannot deliver. The Courier's columns are open to the company to make Its statement. ' ' |
