In the present age of the aeroplane, radio and other modern Inventions, people thousand of miles away are still our neighbors. The Red Cross helps us to be helped nnd to help others. Its organization. Is such that it Is usually the first on the scene of disaster. During the past year the Red Cross was called into action In one hundred nnd twenty" disasters In the United States, and its insular possessions. In forty eight of the Veteran Bureau Bur-eau Hospitals and In all regular Army and Navy hospital there Is stationed one or more representatives of the Red Cross ; currying on a recreation recre-ation program. Enrolled with the headquarters of the 'Nursing Service of the Red Cross at Washington are forty-nine thousand nurses, quulifled under the societies regulations, who may he summoned to service in time of emergencies.
