Show (&(Q)ipy THE FUTURE In this wr i fer 's opinion, Duchesne is destined des-tined to become the most prosperous city in the Uintah Basin. This is because, first of all, it is truly the Gateway City to the Uintah Basin, it is the closet city to the sources of supply and the railroads, and is the natural location by warehousing ware-housing and distributing to the rest of the Basin area. As Duchesne grows and has need of more supplies for itself, it will become evident that to ship to other areas of the Basin and to reship back to Duchesne Du-chesne is not economical. Because of this, more and more wholesalers will see the advantage of being located in Duchesne. The completion of Highway 33 to Carbon County will see a growth in trade and trayel between Duchesne Du-chesne and Carbon counties, and in increase in the use of services in Carbon County for which people have been going to other areas. It is possible that a freight route between the two counties be established estab-lished as well as a bus scheduled to make it possi-j possi-j ble for students to commute daily to the College of Eastern Utah in Price. Now that work has started on the Bureau of Reclamation Re-clamation workcamp in Duchesne, it looks pretty certain that the Starvation Reservoir will be constructed con-structed soon. The financial boost that this project will give us during the construction, and the long lasting potential this will create later in recreation businesses could alone be the making of Duchesne. But, let us consider this coupled with our recent advancement in the oil industry, and the almost certain development of an oil de-waxing plant in the Duchesne area in the not too distant future ! There is little wonder that this writer is optimistic about the future of Duchesne! The one organization that could help most to jf speed these developments in our area is the West Duchesne County Chamber of Commerce. If the citizens in this area could realize how important it is that they become active members of this organization, organiza-tion, they would not be waiting for someone to ask them to buy a membership, but would contact a member of the Board of Directors and pay their dues. Evidence of the power of this type of organization was truly illustrated last week in the response received re-ceived from the Congress and the press to a telegram the Chamber sent to the Senators and Representatives concerning the lack of funds for the workcamp in Duchesne. I would rather be considered a fool by a wise man than a wise man by a fool . |
