Show f B0flL8 I THE EAGLE WILL CONTINUE TO FLY contrary to announcements in another newspaper tn the Uintah Basin the Duchesne Eagle will continue con-tinue to publish. When this little newspaper was started back on January 6, 1966 the Editor stated, "Seeing the town of Duchesne without a local newspaper has presented a challenge for service to this community. 11 "... .this is a step, the very first one, it is a little shakey as a newborn infant, but with your help this first step will grow stronger and with each step new strength will be added to this newspaper and this community. Will you all help and assist us with this first big step. 11 We have now progressed to issue number 16, sometimes we have tripped, stumbled, faltered but with resolve the Eagle moves ahead, realizing that much work must be accomplished. When no one was interested in this community the Eagle was born and is in the process of working to serve this community. Now it seems that we have proven it can be done and it looks like the squeeze is on from down the road a few miles. Frankly, this newspaper started with dedication and a breath of hope, the past sixteen weeks have been hard, we expect the next sixteen to be even harder, but we will fight to the finish. No newspaper in another community is going to announce the death of this newspaper here in our home, Duchesne. If you willcontinueto stick by this newspaper it will certainly repay the favor for years to come by preventing control led news and by adding some healthy competition to the newspaper business in this county. Abandon this newspaper and its humble beginning and you kill future dreams and hopes of others who plan and perhaps visualize launching their own business in the near future and will require re-quire local support and loyalty. We ask that you continue to give to this newspaper your undivided allegiance, believe what you read in this newspaper, not what you hear or read elsewhere. else-where. As we said in Volume I, Number I, 11 We promise you a newspaper full of news and events of Duchense, where your news is on the front page and you don't have to play second fiddle anymore. 11 Jerry Mieure, Editor & Publisher SPECIAL THANKS THIS WEEK TO OLD FRIEND, BOB SWEENEY, who lives in Craig, Colorado, and who has helped the Eagle thru some storms. Each week this Editor travels back home to Sweeney's newspaper shop where the mechanical work is done on this newspaper using modern high speed offset newspaper news-paper equipment. When this Editor came West from Sumner, Illinois back in 1960, I first worked for the N. W. Colorado Press in Craig for over a year with this little letterpress weekly when it was just started, and the Editor was green as a gourd. We struggled along each week putting the newspaper on its feet and building a newspaper plant. That was six yearsago, and the small weekly has turned into a regional daily and a large printing operation. Now the shoe is on the other foot and the Press has been assisting me in starting this operation. We're grateful for the assistance and appreciate the help from the plant until printing equipment, that we found last week, arrives here in Duchesne. A friend in need is a friend indeed, and many, many people haVe certainly proved their worth and valued friendship durinz these past months. Editor G Publisher Jerry Mieure |
