Show AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY NEWS Financial Aid: Basic concerns of the American Amer-ican Cancer Society are Research, Re-search, Education, and Service. Ser-vice. The Utah Division recognizes re-cognizes it has a responsibility to those who need financial aid in reaching a diagnosis where symptoms indicate the probability proba-bility of cancer, or in assisting with treatment for those who actually have the disease. It has, therefore, set up policies to allocate limited funds for these purposes. The maximum financial assistance given is $150 per patient. In many instances, however, this sum is amplified ampli-fied by other groups or relatives who cooperate through our instigation. These assisting groups are all contacted by the Cancer Society and function according to the need and varied circumstances. The Utah Division, A. C. S. while recognizing the needs of the indigent poor, has taken the stand that the financial responsibility for such cases be directed to already established and designated tax-supported agencies. In taking this stand, it should be understood that the Cancer Society does not relinquish its obligation completely com-pletely since each case is analyzed carefully on its individual in-dividual merits before final action is taken, AID IN REHABILITATION OF PATIENTS: The Utah Division of the American Cancer Society recognizes re-cognizes that actual care of the cancer patient must sometimes some-times be augmented by assistance assis-tance in his rehabilitation, -- Funds, within limits, are therefore provided for artificial artifi-cial limbs, braces and other prosthesis, as well as speech therapy, etc, DRESSINGS: Dressings are available free, upon request, for home and hospital cancer patients. Such dressings are made by volunteer groups according to , specifications, and utilize old linen contributed to the Society. So-ciety. Special dressings are made up according to individual indivi-dual need where necessary. LOAN CLOSET: An invaluable service is the maintenance of a loan closet where supplies such as bed linen, back rests, bed jackets, bed tables, basins and other sickroom equipment may be used for cancer patients, pa-tients, on a loan basis. These many services are carried out by volunteers under un-der the supervision of the Medical Me-dical Board of the Utah Division, Di-vision, American Cancer Society. So-ciety.
